Till Death Us Do Part

Publication date: December 29th 2015
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

The fateful day Mimi Marcus has dreaded begins with a phone call…

The wife of a U.S. Marine, Mimi spent countless nights worried that her husband Joel would fall in the line of duty. He had fought valiantly and served his country with honor. That’s exactly what they tell her when they deliver the news—Joel was taken by the enemy in Afghanistan. Her husband is dead.

In desperate need of closure, Mimi travels to the one place Joel still has ties—The Marcus Ranch in Texas, inherited by his handsome younger brother Austin.

New beginnings are only an illusion…

The closer Mimi grows to the Marcus family, the more she considers it home. But when suspicions of Joel’s past surface, Austin refuses to disclose family secrets—even to his brother’s widow. It’s only by accident she uncovers evidence of Joel’s tainted past. Devastated by his lies and betrayal, she slowly opens up to Austin, and together they unfold layers of pain and grief.

Mimi is sure she’ll never love again, but is Austin the man to prove her wrong? Then the unthinkable happens…

Just as Mimi finds new hope in a future with Austin, Joel returns home from war. Enraged, traumatized, and teetering on the edge of insanity, Joel confesses to a history of deception, revealing yet another secret—this one too terrible to forgive.

In an awful twist of fate, Joel proves marriage vows are made to be honored.

No matter what.

EXCERPT

Mimi had been dreaming of a storm. Heavy rain, violent claps of thunder, and lightning flashing simultaneously.

She saw Joel, reaching out for her, his body bloody and wet. She awoke in the darkened room. It was 2:17 a.m.—the exact time she had woken up for three nights in a row. She slipped out of bed, her pyjama bottoms loose around her ever-shrinking waist. The air was freezing. She dashed across the room to wrap herself in the fleecy dressing gown her mother had just bought her for Christmas.

6:47 a.m. in Afghanistan.

Her stomach growled, begging for food. She couldn’t eat. She clicked onto her Twitter feed to check for more updates since the suicide bombing in Kabul, which had claimed at least six—two were American Marines.

Mimi had contacted the Embassy several times, but nobody could tell her anything. The pain of not knowing was taking away her ability to breathe normally. The silence was too loud. She had tried to remember their last conversation. Did she tell him that she loved him? Words so quick to fall off the tongue to end a phone call. Love you—bye. Often she had felt like she was holding a grenade—being the wife of a Marine, always waiting for a letter, hearing his voice, waiting for news that he was alive or dead.

Best Piece of Advice for Aspiring Writers

If you are going to invest hours, weeks and months writing a book, make sure that you are deeply connected to it. Don’t write about zombies and vampires just because that is where the market is right now, if you really want to write a World War love story. Writing is a very personal art. If you don’t believe in your own story, how can you expect others to?If your aim is to be a published author, don’t expect an easy ride. Even famous authors have had rejections, just remember that failure only exists if you quit!

MORE ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Novelist, movie addict  and animal lover, Cristina Slough is the author of Till Death Us Do Part, her debut novel.

Cristina has always been a bookworm, rarely seen without a pen and paper in her hand, she loves delving into a literacy fictional world of her own.

At the age of 11, her junior school teacher told her mother that she would be wasting her life if she didn’t become an author. Throughout her teenage years and beyond, her parents spurred her on to keep writing. She later began a career in commercial real estate, working in London’s West End, a corporate bubble where she was unable to fuel her passion to write.

It was on her Californian honeymoon in 2012 that the bug to write was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. After visiting Yosemite National Park she was inspired by the natural beauty of the land that surrounded her. Holding a special place in her heart, Yosemite would later be written into her debut novel.

She finally gave up the ‘big smoke’ when her son, Lucas, was born in October 2013.

When Lucas was a newborn, Cristina was told to sleep when the baby sleeps. She never could. There was a calling inside her to write. After getting to grips with her new role as a mother, she began working a psychological thriller, but she couldn’t fully connect to the characters she created. She ditched the manuscript and started Till Death Us Do Part (Limitless Publishing, 2015).

Cristina is married to Adam, who runs a successful business; together they share their Bedfordshire home with their son, crazy white German Shepherd and three spoiled cats. They can be found trekking through woodlands, or around the many shops Cristina loves to explore. As a family, they love to travel frequently, the United States being a firm favorite.

Master Class: Initiation by Sierra Cartwright:

Ever since she and a few members of the Divas club had gone to see a movie about BDSM, Jennifer had been intrigued, and afterward at a bar, she’d pestered Noelle with dozens of questions. But it had taken Jennifer several months to accept an invite to experience it for herself.

“So,” Eden persisted, “did you play with Logan?”

She shook her head. “No. With someone else.”

“And what did he do to you?”

“He, um”—she ran her finger over the base of the wineglass—“gave me a few swats with

a paddle.”

“What kind?” Eden leaned forward. “A leather one, like in the movie?”

“It was wood.”

“How did it feel?” Ava asked.

Jennifer hesitated. Instead of Master Simon, she was remembering Logan and his offer to show her how it could be different.

“You didn’t like it?” Eden said.

“It was a bit disappointing.”

“That’s why you should call Logan,” Noelle said triumphantly. “He’d give you a paddling you’ll never forget.”

Jennifer squirmed, and she felt a flush creep up her cheeks. All week, she’d thought of nothing else, picturing a paddle in his strong hands. Or better, a flogger. Her flogger. The one she’d bought on a wild impulse when she and Ava had gone shopping for bachelorette gifts for Noelle. “He’s not my type.”

“Why not?” Noelle demanded.

“He looks dangerous,” Jennifer replied. Too masculine. Too broad. Too big. Too handsome. Too unnerving.

“His scar’s sexy,” Noelle said.

It was.

“Scar?” Eden asked, looking between the two of them. “What kind of scar?”

“It runs from the corner of his eye up into his hairline,” Noelle replied for her. “When I asked him about it one time, he changed the subject. I know he’s a detective, but all Joe will tell me about Logan’s past is that they were in some sort of peacekeeping unit in the Middle East a long time ago.”

At the party, Jennifer had been highly aware of him. She’d noticed him the moment he’d entered the basement, and her core temperature had shot up. Noelle was right. He was handsome, if you liked men who were big, muscled, and rugged. The nasty, jagged scar had continually drawn her attention.

About JACKSON'S TRUST

New York Times bestselling author Violet Duke kicks off her sizzling-hot new Fourth Down series with a friends-to-lovers romance between a no-strings-attached sports analyst and the hottest damn tomboy he’s ever met.

It’s no secret that sports analyst Jackson Gray doesn’t do relationships. What is a secret, however, is the reason why. Jackson’s life is . . . complicated. And it doesn’t help that his current hands-off “friendship” is with the cute-as-hell new sideline reporter he’s assigned to train. Turns out, not only is the woman damn sweet, she also knows as much about football as he does. Like it or not though, Jackson has to remind himself that sex is the only thing he has to offer . . . until now. Leila Hart’s fast-growing friendship with Jackson is something she’d never risk, no matter how unbelievably seductive the reward. Becoming an NFL sportscaster has always been the goal, and thanks to Jackson’s fierce support and mentoring, it all finally seems within reach. Problem is, a girl can only take so much of that sexy-as- sin voice whispering dirty, filthy football stats in her ear before she loses all self- control. A workplace romance with Jackson is a disaster waiting to happen, especially for someone with big dreams . . . and secrets of her own.

Advance praise for Jackson’s Trust

“I totally love this hotter side of Violet Duke. You still get the same sweet, emotional story but with a little bit of extra sizzle. Jackson’s Trust is a must-read novel.”New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett

Read a Sneak Peek of JACKSON'S TRUST!

At first glance, Jackson looked like any other ridiculously handsome former athlete. But the second glance was when it became obvious the man was complex, more than simply handsome.

He was deep.

Everything about him made you realize there was much more beneath the surface.

If you made it that far, that is. Leila didn’t blame a woman for getting lost in surface appearances for quite a while because good lord, what a surface it was.

He had a hard-to-miss All-American athletic build that almost couldn’t be contained in the swanky NFL-after-party-worthy sports jacket he was wearing. His locked and loaded guns for arms framed a spectacularly broad chest and carved abs his shirt had actually molded to for one particularly memorable few seconds. All in all, it was the sort of physique that very likely inspired the first ad campaign with male models lifting the hem of their T-shirts up like it was a perfectly normal occurrence.

And above his shoulders? Jesus. She would’ve pegged him as having been sculpted rather than born based on that etched jawline and the ruggedly sexy lines along the muscular column of his neck.

Meanwhile, his casual product-free ash brown hair was the unassuming variety you expected to find on the guy next door. The kind that looked like he’d just sprinted over from a jog on the beach and shoved his hand through it right before a candidly perfect black-and-white model photo shoot.

Really though, the most distracting of his long list of magnetic qualities was his ability to just stand there without feeling the need to say more than a few words. Never before would she have put “quiet” in the same category as “sexy.” But on this man, it so very much was.

His composed, confident presence was almost deafening. And if she had to hazard a guess, she’d estimate that those hypnotic hazel eyes of his, with that touch of buried sadness, could likely charm the panties off of an unsuspecting woman even at ten yards away.

Yowza. Make that twenty. The dangerous weapons in question were now locked on her own eyes.

And if her body’s immediate reaction to that were any reliable warning, she wondered if she’d ever get any normal breathing done at work.

Honestly, if she weren’t so darn curious about this whole “Weatherman” nickname— which appeared fitting if Jackson had been able to predict the Viper’s two-touchdown win from position stats alone—Leila would already have made a heartfelt request to her new boss to pair her up with a mentor that was far less attractive.

Or at the least, someone who didn’t call her “sunshine.” . . . In a low, darkly seductive rumble that didn’t belong in remotely the same category as mortal male voices.

Mentally, she braced herself when she felt him lean over, just a bit, to utter in a low voice only she could hear, “While I’d love nothing more than to stay right here and figure out what blush-inspiring thoughts you’ve been thinking about for the past few minutes, unfortunately, I have to get going.”

Before she could even attempt to contradict, or be offended by, the remark, he met her narrowed gaze with a searing hot promise, twined around a dare. “I’ll see you first thing in the morning, sunshine. Bright and early.” His eyes dropped down to her still-heated cheeks in a gentle caress. “We can discuss the Viper’s conference championship win that Lloyd mentioned,” he added quietly, as if knowing exactly which hot buttons to press to turn her imagination on. Literally and figuratively. “Only if you’re interested, that is.”

With his closeness affecting her ability to think about anything other than how good his voice sounded in her ear, she simply nodded, choosing to ignore how deeply her answer could get tangled in that broad net he’d just cast with that last statement.

Not that any sort of admission of her being “interested” could be any worse than the wildly imaginative, mildly panic-worthy daydream she was currently having.

Which starred him discussing football stats with her in that mesmerizing 1-900 voice of his.

Holy crap.

Her knees buckled.

No judging. To each woman, her own version of dirty talk.

BOOK BLITZ & GIVEAWAY - Taken by Jessa Fox

TAKEN

By: Jessa Fox
Publication date: February 8th 2016
Genres: Erotica, Romance

Synopsis:

Since the moment Chase and Evan spotted Shay, they knew they had to have her. They are best friends, closer, brothers really. They do everything together including women, and they always get what they want.

Once they set their plan she doesn’t stand a chance. She will be theirs, point blank. Period.

There’s no way she’s getting away from what they have in store, and whether she likes it or not, she will be owned by them both.

Q&A with Jessa Fox

What made you want to become a writer?

I have always loved to write since I was a young child. I would always come up with different dramatic scenarios and then act them out. Once I got older and became an avid reader, I started reading a lot of mystery and romance and those two were my favorite genres, and that made me start writing my first short stories.

How do you come up with plot ideas?

I think a good plot has a lot of twists and turns to it, but not so many that the reader can’t keep up, but enough to keep things interesting. I usually come up with ideas just thinking about scenarios that I think are exciting and would hold my attention if I was reading the story. I also like scenarios that involve an element of taboo or something exotic or unusual. That’s kind of my thing.

How do you create your characters?

I think that characters that are most memorable are those that have a strong backstory that explains why they are who they are, as well as why they react in the way that they do. I also like writing strong characters, especially women. I feel like today there are so many strong female role models to look up to, that are truly inspirations, and I try to write characters that reflect that.

What do you think makes a good erotic romance story?

I think a good romance story has a good plot, unexpected twists, a hero that is sexy, smart but still down to earth, (maybe a little bit kinky) and a heroine who is strong, and knows what she wants. If you have all of those elements, I think it makes for a good fun story.

What do you like most about writing?
I love getting to express my creativity and all of the stories that pop into my mind. I always have a new idea for a story that I look forward to writing. I hope everyone enjoys what I’m doing. Telling stories that take the reader into a different reality is something I love to do and if I can do that well, then I’m happy.

Hi, my name is Jessa Fox. I'm a professional by day and an erotica writer by night. There's nothing I love more than writing all of the smutty stories that are in my head and bringing them to life. I specialize in writing down all the taboo, sexy scenarios that we all wish we could experience, at least once.

But maybe that's just me.

I'm also a wife and mom, and dutiful member of the Parent's Association. Shh, don't tell.

Jessa Fox is my pseudonym, because no one knows about all of the kinky stories and characters I love to create. They would never imagine all of the dirty thoughts running through my mind. I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I love writing them. If you're looking for a quick smutty treat, you came to the right place.

But there’s nothing wrong with having a little crush on the guy she sees at lunchtime, is there? Sure, he’s a lot younger, but it’s only a crush. It’s not like she’s going to date him or anything.

Matthew Gordon wants nothing more than for his band Joyride to go national. While he waits for his big break, he spends his days working in a sandwich shop—a job he loathes—and teaching guitar on the side—a job he loves. His days get a bit more interesting when a mysterious woman comes in for lunch and hands him a list of her favorite songs. So imagine his surprise when she shows up at his door for guitar lessons.

Unfortunately, Julia can’t play guitar to save her life, and her frustration threatens to ruin any chance of her finding happiness—with herself, or in love. Will he ever be able to teach her that she’s perfect just as she is?

Need You Tonight by Gwen Hayes

Jacob’s eyes never rest. He glances at me briefly before scanning the swarm of disgruntled travelers around us. The logical side of my brain says that he is just being careful. People on the run have to be hypersensitive to their surroundings. The illogical poster-girl-of-a-train-wreck side thinks he just wants to get away from me as soon as possible and is looking for a break in the crowds.
“Where were you going?” he asks. Probably to be polite.
“Florida. You?” Stupid girl. “Never mind. That was dumb. You can’t tell me where you are going or where you’ve been or probably even what you had for breakfast yesterday.”
“It doesn’t really matter where I was going,” he says, glossing over my sarcasm like he always does. “Nobody’s getting out of Detroit alive tonight.” He looks at his watch. “I guess I should try to book a room.”
I follow his wrist back down to his side with my gaze. God, nothing has changed. Even his wrists turn me on. Focus, Becky. “Good luck with that. Hotel rooms are going to be scarce.”
“I suppose you already have one.”
I shrug. “You know me.”
Awkward silence.
“You look good, Becky.”
Though they are kind, the words bite into my tender heart with razor sharp teeth. They are so tame compared to the last time he told me how I looked. When he said he couldn’t get enough of my hot little body. That I made him so hard every time he looked at me. My face was forever etched in his mind.
Now I look “good.”
I smile through the jagged pain because that is what you do when it hurts to breathe. “Thanks. I don’t suppose we could grab a cup of coffee, could we?” I don’t know why I said that. Why did I just say that?
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea. It’s risky.”
Two years. I have missed him every day for two years. “We’re random strangers in a crowded airport today. Is it really so dangerous?”
He rubs his chin, scratching at the light dusting of stubble. “You’re not a random stranger, Becks.”
I shrug. “Nobody here knows that.” What if he says yes? What would it be like to forget, just for one hour, all the things that haunt me? Just take a step out of time. “It’s coffee, not a dark alley. I’ll help you make calls to hotels first.”
I don’t wait for an answer; I just grab his hand and pull. He’ll follow. He’ll roll his eyes, act a little miffed, and go along with me just like he always used to. Because he didn’t say no. He said he didn’t know if it was a good idea. Semantics are everything with a guy like Jacob Stone.
Twenty minutes later, after fruitless phone calls for a room, Jacob takes a long pull from his coffee and sits back in his chair, defeated. “How did you score a room? Wait, don’t tell me. You reserved it days ago, didn’t you?”
“The storm isn’t a surprise. They’ve been tracking it for a while.”
Jacob looks out the windows across the terminal. “It looks like a hurricane out there. It’s getting dark, too.”
The airport is stuffy and hot, with the temperature rising as the untraveling passengers’ moods get hotter. “I know you’ll say no, but you are welcome to crash in my room. It’s better than the floor at the gate.”
“That’s a bad idea.” Jake shuts down, just like he always did. That means no.
Now is make-or-break for what’s left of my pride. The interlude was pleasant, in its own way, but I am a realist now. A step out of time can’t take me a mile. I’ve learned the hard way that real life encroaches too soon. He’s broken my heart for the last time. I won’t beg again. This time, I’ll be the one to walk away.
“Suit yourself.” I push away from the table, slinging my carryon over my shoulder. “I’ll leave a key for you at the desk, Mr. McDonald, in case you should change your mind.” I walk just past the table and stop without turning around. “Take care of yourself.”
I miss you.
And that is that.
